About us

Rejoice in God's Word, Share Christ's Love.

We serve our congregation and community by loving each other and reaching out with God's Word.

We accomplish this through:

  • Welcoming
  • Worship
  • Giving and Tithing
  • Studying and Living God' s Word.

We don't sell a product at Joy Lutheran Church. God's love is free. We are in the business of making disciples (Matthew 28:19).  So, what what does a follower (disciple) of Jesus Christ look like at Joy?

These are the marks that we believe ought to be developed in people connected to Joy Lutheran Church:

  • Living a Christian Life, which reveals the fruit of the Spirit in relationships, through Worship, Study, Giving, Prayer, Serving, and Witness while navigating the challenges of life in faith and at peace.

1

Our Values

Prayer is a primary value for us as we are able to talk to the Creator of the Universe. We pray for ourselves and for others. We thank and praise God for his work in our world. We draw strength from knowing that God is with us and for us. We live this out with our prayer ministry, during our prayers in worship as well as praying wherever we are.  "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." (1 John 5:14)

2

Our Values

God values people and so do we. We believe that God is the creator of everyone who has ever and will ever exist. That means that everyone is a masterpiece. We treat masterpieces with a great amount of care, love and respect.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." (John 3:16-17)

3

Our Values

Commitment is another one of our core values. We believe on following through on being God's servants in this world. We serve God by loving God and loving others. We live this out as a community as we follow the example of the first Christians. "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." (Acts 2:42)

4

Our Values

The Bible is the foundation what what we believe which impacts our view of who we are and how we are called to live in this world. We are a community of believers who are biblically-based. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Our Vision

Compelled by Christ's love and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we will become a community of Jesus followers who:

  • are a vibrant, diverse multigenerational community of people who experience life as the family of Christ.
  • are serving our congregation and community with our finances, through caring ministry and connecting with children.
  • have a place of our own from which to expand these ministries and their impact.

 Who We Are

Joy Lutheran formed in November of 2011. We are a congregation in Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) We got started in a living room and have met in a funeral home. Currently, we are blessed to be able to gather at the Billings Seventh Adventist Church campus at 3200 Broadwater.

We gather each Sunday morning at:

  • 9am for Bible study
  • 10am for Children's Church and Worship with communion
  • 11am for Lunch

Some women from our congregation get together at the conference room at St. John's United Mission Ridge for Bible Study on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 9:30am.

Our prayer team meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 1:30pm to lift up our congregation and community in prayer.

Joy Lutheran Church also believes in giving back to the Billings and Yellowstone County community. As part of our ministry, we give 10% of our weekly offerings to different local non-profits and ministries.

Over the years, Joy has been served by the following pastors:

  • Bud Veis (2011-2016)
  • Mark Fry (2016-2021)
  • Dave Hall (2021-present)

Joy Lutheran Church Bible

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God's Word for us. The Bible is a book with 66 books written over a period of 1500 years by over 40 human authors. Yet, it holds together as one message that reveals God's love for the world.

We believe the Bible reveals God's work through the centuries, provides encouragement and wisdom for today, while leading us to what waits for us in the future.

Let us know what questions you have about the Bible.

Joy Lutheran Church Baptism

Baptism

Baptism is an amazing gift that God gives us. God uses plain water and combines it with his powerful Word and Name to give us a new life.

Before Jesus ascended into heaven he said, "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 29:18-20).

Let us know if you would like to be baptized.

Joy Lutheran Church Communion

Communion

Communion is a sacred meal we celebrate each Sunday as we gather for worship. It is meal where Jesus combines his body and blood with bread and wine to give us forgiveness, life, and salvation just as Jesus promises.

We believe that people who are worthy and well prepared to receive this meal are the ones who have faith in these words, "Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins" because the words "for you" require all hearts to believe.
