April 7, 2024 - Is seeing believing or is believing seeing? For Jesus' disciples, they needed to see to be able to believe. They walked with Jesus for three years - seeing him do amazing things and trying to soak in what he was teaching. But, when it came to the resurrection, they were a bit blind. What causes you to be blind when it comes to Jesus?
March 31, 2024 - Christ is Risen! He is Risen, Indeed! Alleluia! On that first Easter, Jesus' followers were in hiding. They were anxious and afraid. Then, Jesus walks in and says, "Peace be with you!" Jesus went looking for his followers when they were anxious and afraid. He brought them peace and joy. Jesus does the same thing for you and me, today. He comes to give us peace and then sends us to others to share that peace with them.
March 24, 2024 - Who was responsible for Jesus being crucified? Was it the fault of the Jewish people? Their Leaders? The Romans? Pontius Pilate, the Roman Governor? Why didn't God the Father step in?
There are so many questions that can come up as we relive the day Jesus died. Some of the questions have some answers. Other answers aren't so satisfying. There are other questions for which we don't have answers.
So, what can we learn about Jesus from the week that he died? How can this week of his earthly life inspire us as we follow in his footsteps?
March 17, 2024 - Living in a community with other people is hard. At times, we are so wired to be individuals in our culture that we forget about the positives of being part of a community and struggle to get past the sacrifices and compromises that are a necessary part of community life.
On Thursday of the week that Jesus died, he was celebrating a centuries-old meal with his disciples when he gave it a twist and gave them a challenge. Ironically, this challenge came as he was being betrayed.
March 10, 2024 - We have choices in how we face situations of conflict. On Wednesday, of the week Jesus died, we overhear the Jewish leaders. We see a woman dump a vase full of oil on Jesus, and we see the beginnings of Judas' betrayal. These three scenes remind us of the two roads people can take.
March 3, 2024 - What happened on Tuesday of the week that Jesus died? Lots of things, but we only chose to dig into one of them. Jesus went back to the temple and stood firm as he spoke the truth to the Pharisees. Let's see what we can learn about how Jesus waged peace during Holy Week.
February 25, 2024 - When you think of Jesus, do you think of milk toast or macho? Or maybe you think of something in between. How we think of Jesus is often what we read into the stories about Jesus in the Bible. As we follow Jesus through the week he died, we look at his Monday schedule which includes a visit to the temple.
